The image above was made in the Lake District. I shoot mostly digital these days but learnt my photography with traditional film and darkroom processes.

Alex Jerman's photography & teaching background

Alex studied on the City & Guilds Photography course for four years in traditional and digital photography and have attended various other courses and workshops before deciding to take up photography professionally at the end of 2005. Alex completed a years experience as a studio assistant at a community arts project based in Salford, in the photography department. Having a teaching background, as a successful tennis coach for 7 years before taking up photography full time. Camera Culture Manchester Group was set up in early 2007 as a fun alternative to the traditional camera club.

'I was interested in photography as a teenager, I had a disc camera, remember those ! and then took quite a few travel photographs in my early twenties. I travelled independently in Asia and Europe in the 90's. The first time I developed my own black and white film and printed the results in the dark room, I was hooked. Now with digital, photography is so accessible, a vast subject to get your teeth into ! I hope you enjoy the website and I look forward to meeting you at one of the events or for photography workshops and one to ones.'

Enjoy your creativity... Alex
